Highlights of the July Publisher ranking include:

  • Six of the Top 10 Publishers showed gains in their Unique US Monthly Audience in July over June while the other four were either flat or saw slight decreases.

  • Total Global Downloads for the Top 10 Publishers is down 2% in July over June.

  • Total Global Downloads for the Top 10 Publishers is up 57% year-over-year.

June 2018- Top Podcast Publishers

The Top 10 Podcast Publishers ranking for June 2018 is now available at Podtrac.com.

Highlights of the June Publisher ranking include:

  • Five of the Top 10 Publishers showed gains in their Unique US Monthly Audience in June over May while the other five were either flat or saw slight decreases.

  • Total Global Downloads for the Top 10 Publishers is up 1% in June over May.

  • Total Global Downloads for the Top 10 Publishers is up 65% year-over-year.

Podtrac Audience Counts - Always Consistent with IAB Podcast Metric Guidelines 2.0

In December 2017, the IAB published its 2.0 Podcast Measurement Technical Guidelines which “attempts to provide clarity in the marketplace by describing best practices for measuring downloads, audience size, and ad delivery.” Podtrac was a significant contributor to this document, and we wanted to assure all podcast publishers and advertisers that Podtrac audience counts are and have always been consistent with the best practices outlined in the IAB Podcast Metrics 2.0 document.

A few publications, including Adweek and Digiday, have recently published articles about publishers claiming to be the first to adopt the guidelines.  The articles focus on the use by some publishers of ad impression counts from podcast ad insertion companies.      

The articles do not address other important podcast metrics beyond ad insertion numbers, such as unique monthly audience at the podcast, publisher and episode levels.  Podtrac has provided publishers access to these metrics for years, and uses unique monthly audience by publisher and podcast to create our monthly Podcast Industry Audience Rankings.  The IAB Podcast Metrics 2.0 Guidelines are consistent with Podtrac counts.

Podtrac supports the industry continuing to improve its metrics and the ad insertion companies and their publisher customers that are pushing ahead with implementing the new IAB standards.

April 2018- Top 10 Podcast Publishers and top 20 podcasts

The Top 10 Podcast Publishers and Top 20 Podcasts rankings for April 2018 are now available at Podtrac.com.

Highlights of the April Publisher ranking include:

  • US Unique Monthly Audience increased for seven of the Top 10 publishers in April over March with the New York Times showing the largest gain (15%).
  • Total Global Unique Streams and Downloads for the group of Top 10 publishers is down 2% in April over March. 
  • Total Global Downloads and Streams for the Top 10 Publishers in April increased by 75% year-over-year from April of 2017.

March 2018- Top Podcast Publishers

The Top 10 Podcast Publishers ranking for March 2018 is now available at Podtrac.com.

Highlights of the March Publisher ranking include:

  • US Unique Monthly Audience increased for half of the Top 10 publishers in March over February with iHeart (11%) and Wondery (6%) showing the largest gains.
  • Total Global Unique Streams and Downloads for the group of Top 10 publishers is up 8% in March from February. 
  • Total Global Downloads and Streams for the Top 10 Publishers in March  increased by 96% year-over-year from March of 2017.
  • For those five publishers who also appeared on the March 2017 Top Publisher Ranking, four show gains in their US Unique Monthly Audience with NYT showing the largest increase(137%), followed by HowStuffWorks(67%).
