May 2017 - Top Podcast Publishers

The full May Ranking of the Top 10 Podcast Publishers is now available at Podtrac.com. 

Highlights of the May Ranking include:

  • The Washington Post debuts at #10 with a U.S. Unique Audience of just under 1.4 million.
  • Six of the ten publishers showed increases in their U.S. unique audience over April with three publishers posting double digit gains: HowStuffWorks (48%), Washington Post (28%) and New York Times (18%).
  • Total Global Unique Streams and Downloads for the group of Top 10 publishers is flat for May 2017 (250,700,000) over April 2017 (250,401,000) .

Comparing year-over-year data all six publishers who were on both the May 2016 and May 2017 rankings show double digit year-over-year growth, with HowStuffWorks (71%)  and NPR (63%) showing the biggest gains.

Top 20 Podcasts: April 2017

S-Town, the new podcast from This American Life and Serial, tops the April list up from #4 in March.  S-Town broke the record of fastest growing podcast with an average of 5.6 million downloads per episode in its first 30 days.

April 2017 - Top Podcast Publishers

The full April 2017 Ranking of the Top 10 Podcast Publishers is now available at Podtrac.com. 

The April 2017 ranking marks the one-year anniversary of the Podtrac Podcast Publisher ranking.

Comparing year-over-year data for the first time (April 2016 to April 2017) provides the following insights:

  • U.S. podcast audiences are increasing:  the top 10 publishers saw an average increase of 31% year-over-year

  • Audiences are listening more:  the top publishers saw a year-over-year increase of 35% in Global Downloads and Streams (from 169 million in April 2016 to 259 million in April 2017)

  • NPR continues to lead the podcasting space: NPR has held the position of publisher with the largest unique audience for 13 straight months.

Total Global Unique Streams and Downloads for the group of Top 10 publishers is up by 9% for April 2017 over March 2017.

Top 20 Podcasts: March 2017

Highlights of the February Publisher Ranking :

  • The New York Times debuts on the Ranking at #7 fueled by the success of its new podcast The Daily.
  • Unique audience and global downloads were relatively flat for most publishers for February compared to January.
  • Total Global Unique Streams and Downloads for the group of top 10 publishers was 183 million in February compared to 194 million in  January.

January 2017 - Top Podcast Publishers

Podtrac's Top Podcast Publisher Ranking for January 2017 is now available

The full January Ranking of the Top 10 Podcast Publishers is now available for download at Podtrac.com. 

Highlights of the January Publisher Ranking :

  • Unique audience was flat for all publishers for January compared to December, however, all but two publishers had an increase in total U.S. and Global downloads - signifying an increase in the amount of listening (number of episodes) by individual audience members while the overall audience of podcast listeners remains static.
  • Total Global Unique Streams and Downloads for the group of top 10 publishers was up 4% for January over December while U.S. traffic was up by 3%.
